About Jamie

Soul Guide | Author | Ecologist

…“How raven is of my heart. When he flew from the depth of the sky to the cold, white snowbank on the mountain’s crest, wings outstretched and feet tucked, an iridescent black purpose, I knew the unimaginable was leaving its powerful imprint where I could find it. We are all of a mythology of our own making…”

Jamie is a soul guide, award-winning writer, philosopher, artist, and ecologist. In all forms, her work explores the interrelatedness of Nature and human nature. She lives and inspires others to live into the question,

“How do we love ourselves back into the world to the depth and extent that we recognize ourselves as a part of rather than apart from Nature?”

Following a near-death experience at age six, Jamie dedicated her life to healing the imagined human-Nature divide. Her journey has been one of walking multiple worlds. She holds a PhD in Biology from Stanford University, with a focus on conservation ecology, and an interdisciplinary (Biology, Anthropology, and Geology) Bachelor of Science from the College of William and Mary, with a minor in Studio Art.

She is a certified Life Coach, as well as Trainer, Health Practitioner, and Master Practitioner in Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). In 2001, Jamie received the NLP World Community Award for her application of NLP to the human dimensions of environmental conservation.

Jamie has worked in over 70 countries as a senior transdisciplinary conservation scientist and policy analyst and, as an editor for three scientific journals, stays current on emerging science at the interface of Nature and human nature.

Jamie is deeply grateful for the wisdom conveyed to her by Indigenous medicine keepers and spirit medicines, most notably in response to callings from her ancestral Celtic bloodlines and voices arising from the Andes to the Amazon. By far, her greatest teachings have come from long, underworldly journeys to the heart of trauma, loss, and disillusionment.

Jamie was just 13 when she founded and began directing an immersive youth nature camp. More than four decades later, she continues to guide people around the world through a deep and enduring process of remembering - remembering their belonging as an aspect of Nature. She honors ancestral story, the wisdom in decay, and the generative potency of what is emerging but not yet arrived. She puts faith in Life’s commitment to renewal.

She recognizes the current “polycrisis” as a symptom of humanity’s imagined separation from ecological systems and that rectifying this psychological projection is the most vital, regenerative work of our time. She knows we are being called – individually and collectively – to consciously find our way back to earth, to root and cultivate a new, aligned identity of place that is resilient, regenerative, and relationally intelligent.

When working with clients, Jamie engages a profound capacity to attune to narratives that emerge from the depths of the psyche, body, and time.  She works with emergent words, images, sounds, and feelings as pattern language – mysterious and yet knowable. She facilitates restorative, relational conversations that enable a return to place as identity, as lineage, as an integral aspect of living, generative systems. She guides by serving as a translator, witness, and co-walker – inhabiting the liminal forgotten landscapes in which the essence of human spirit is rooted. Her work is grounded in the strengths of Western science, holistic ways of “non-ordinary” knowing that arise from reciprocal place-based relationships, and the medicine of wisdom that must be offered upon the return from arduous rites of passage.

Jamie is of the Northeastern American Mixed Forests. She finds home in the Appalachian highlands where headwater glades of dense ferns and mosses flank emergent streams, giving rise to oceans. Simultaneously, she is a nomadic creature of the world, having worked and travelled in over 70 countries, experiencing the diverse terrain of people and place. In the company of beloved four-leggeds, she regeneratively farms a circa 1754 homestead, tended by the meandering Rockfish River and steadfast Blue Ridge Mountains of central Virginia.
